What is T.I.C.K?

Take Initiative Check Kids is our way of educating and protecting young children from the dangers of ticks and Lyme disease — especially while they’re spending time outdoors at school.

Kids are naturally curious, love the outdoors, and often don’t know the risks ticks pose. That’s why our T.I.C.K. program offers free tick and mosquito sprays for preschools in the area — using our all-natural, child-safe treatments — plus free educational materials to send home with parents.

Because kids deserve to Enjoy More Time Outside — safely.

What’s Included in T.I.C.K.?

Ticks are known carriers of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, which makes early and frequent tick checks essential—especially after your child has spent time outdoors. Be particularly vigilant after they’ve been in wooded or grassy areas, and carefully inspect these common hiding spots where ticks tend to latch on.

  • Use a lint roller to remove a tick that has not attached yet.
  • Put your clothes in a dryer for 20 minutes after an outdoor activity.
  • The heat will kill any ticks that are attached to your clothes.
  • Stick to the middle of trails and avoid walking through wooded and brushy areas.
  • Don’t forget to use a safe tick repellent on your clothes before you head outside!

How to Remove a Tick Safely

Find a pair of fine-point tweezers. Using this tool will help prevent tearing the tick’s body and spreading whatever infections it has around the open area.

Grasp the tick with the tweezers as close to the skin as possible.

Pull upwards in a slow and steady motion until the tick is removed from the skin.

Wash your hands and the bite area with soap and water.

Flush the tick down the toilet or save it in a bag to send in for testing.
