A Decade of Dedication: Celebrating 10 Years of ohDEER Franchising

ohDEER is proud to announce that 2024 marks a significant milestone for us, as we celebrate a decade of franchising! Two dedicated franchises, ohDEER Marthas Vineyard and ohDEER South Shore, will also be celebrating 10 years of service this year.

Since ohDEER was founded in 2006, we’ve stayed committed to providing natural and safe solutions for deer, tick, and mosquito control. We continue to offer only All-Natural solutions today, now to more areas than ever! Over the past 10 years we have opened ohDEER franchises in the following states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland and Virginia. As we reflect on our journey, we’re thrilled to share our excitement for the future, marked by the opening of our newest franchise location in Central Virginia.

At ohDEER, we’ve always believed in the power of community and collaboration. Our recent annual event was a testament to this belief, bringing together our ohDEER herd of franchise owners, the development team and the founders. Franchise owners had the opportunity to engage with CRM, product, and marketing vendors that work with ohDEER about their personal needs and questions. They also participated in insightful roundtable discussions and an award ceremony. We also gave out awards to ohDEER franchise owners who made over $1 million dollars in revenue, moved their home-based operations to a shop, and provided the home office with valuable feedback. We ended the day by enjoying a meal together and watching a Providence Bruins game in a suite. This day was a true reflection of the camaraderie and spirit that define our ohDEER family. Central to our celebration at the annual event were two franchise owners who have been with us since the beginning of franchising—Eddie Spindola of ohDEER Martha’s Vineyard and Dave Mulcahy of ohDEER South Shore. Both franchises are celebrating 10 years of service in 2024, made possibly by their unwavering dedication and loyalty to our brand.

Eddie’s journey with ohDEER began in March of 2014 when ohDEER Martha’s Vineyard became our first-ever franchise location. ohDEER founder Kurt Upham had made the decision to expand ohDEER, and was looking for someone to own a location on Martha’s Vineyard. Eddie was working as a landscaper for ohDEER founder Kurt Upham’s mother on Martha’s Vineyard when she noticed Eddie’s admirable work ethic. Kurt offered Eddie the opportunity to expand ohDEER to the island, and since then he has built a dominant and successful business. His commitment to excellence and lasting connections with island residents have been instrumental in shaping the success of our brand on the Vineyard. A fun fact about Eddie is that he had to buy longer hoses for his trucks because the gorgeous properties he services on the island span so many acres.

Similarly, Dave Mulcahy’s decade with ohDEER has been marked by leadership and a pursuit of excellence. In June of 2014 outdoors-lover Dave opened the ohDEER South Shore location. Just a year later, he expanded his operations and opened the ohDEER Cape Cod location, foreshadowing his dedication to growth that was to come. Today in 2024, Dave still owns both locations and is the Chief Operating Officer for ohDEER development. His insights and experience have been valuable in guiding our franchise system to new heights. A fun fact about Dave is that he is a Certified Franchise Executive through the International Franchise Association and a Conquer business coach. As a father of two young boys, Dave understands the importance of protecting your kids from tick and mosquito-borne illnesses. He works hard to deliver safe and natural pest control to a large territory of communities of families.

We are also excited to welcome two new additions to the ohDEER herd—Josh Hafner and Wes Davis, the proud owners of ohDEER Central Virginia. Their collaboration, passion for the outdoors, and desire to deliver safe pest control to their community align with the values that define ohDEER. “As a father of young kids I understand that parents are starting to see tick and mosquito control as not just a luxury, but a necessity in fighting insect-borne diseases,” said Davis. “ohDEER gives us the opportunity to build a thriving business that will make a positive impact in our community.” Together, we’re confident that Josh and Wes will continue to uphold the ohDEER standard of excellence and make a positive impact in their community.

Looking back on the past decade fills us with pride and gratitude. From our humble beginnings in a garage to a thriving network of 14 locations spanning across multiple states, ohDEER’s franchising journey has been remarkable. As we embark on the next chapter of our journey, we’re excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Our immediate goals include opening more ohDEER locations in existing states and branching into neighboring states along the Northeast coast.
